University of Maine at Orono Men’s Soccer Team

The University of Maine at Orono started at Men’s Soccer Club in 1961 when Silas Dunklee was hired to develop a soccer program, as well as coach the Ski and Tennis Teams. For two years it was a “club” with practices and intrasquad scrimmages. In 1963 the program became a Varsity Sport, thus playing a six game scheduled in the Maine State Series against Bowdoin College, Colby College, and Bates College. In 1965 UMO also joined the Yankee Confernce expanding its schedule to 11 games adding the University of Vermont, University of Connecticut, University of New Hampshire, University of Rhode Island, and University of Massachusetts.

Below is a Year-by-Year breakdown of the UMO Men’s Soccer Program up to 2008 when it was abandoned as a Varsity Sport.
